after reading your post I think of: forgiveness, compassion, understanding that i am not the center of attention, and the giving of freedom to others and to myself. there are some people i fear reaching out to again, not because i think i won't be accepted, but because i can't give myself that freedom to be anything but the best friend ever.

My Mom was pretty outspoken, but during the McCarthy era, she became much more reticent. And she urged me to keep quiet because I was so unhappy with losing friends. I don't think that was the right choice, though I'm not sure what was. That they moved, which was not easy for them financially, shows how concerned they were. I knew that back then and was extremely appreciative. My fiftieth hs reunion is this year, and I plan on going east to meet three women friends from those days. We will probably meet in NYC and skip the reunion, since none of us liked it much many years ago. I am in touch with all of them, and they with just me, so it should be fun to re-connect for everyone else. Interesting that with personal issues you've had a hard time too. Wonder if this is something we learn in society, from our mom's .... where? Glad you won't stifle yourself either. It just isn't worth it.

Nance, I was touched to learn this about you. Our grandparents appeared to be very outspoken, and so was my mother. I was more fortunate than you in my school and friendship circles, but regarding personal differences, it has always been a struggle. Like you, I have gotten to the point of it not being an option to stifle myself! But it takes some ware and tear at times. And still, too much thinking/concern. So here’s to our breezy 80′s!

Marissa,

Thanks for your heart-felt and honest comment. Forgiving ourselves is so damned hard. I would suggest Alanon. It really helps with these kinds of issues, if you work the program, get a sponsor, etc. There are meetings all over the country. I live in a very small town, and we have over three meetings a week here. You can always go on line, or google Al-anon. They list meetings town by town. And i you have AA near you, they would know about Al-anon meetings.

I'm glad I give you hope. Keep commenting and I will write back. You could try the book; it might help you through in other ways too. You can order from Amazon. Or just keep reading the free blog and I'll reply.

You speak from my hearth & minde. Wish, I could join to get over my paste relationship with a junkie, sex addict criminal. He took everrything I had & saved a way from me. I left Him. Was homless & miserable for close 1 year. When I was over this, He showed up, 60 pound lost & told Me, that He missed Me. (Was only the Housekeeper for the dyrt) Today, I don't know, what happens to me, to fall for such loser & hang in to please Him. I live in a sdmall town & the police was never an option. Would move, but not help to do so.
You give Me Hope! I Adore what You do. Keep going. Thanks & God Bless. Marissa E.

thanks for this. Keep commenting on those that interest you. The more dialogue woman to woman, the better. That's one of my goals. (That my daughters will learn quicker is a lovely pipe dream, and not how it works, I fear. But they are doing well, and are a delight, at least most of the time! :) )

He was fine yesterday and seems fine today. So perhaps he swallowed something soft, that didn't show on Xray or in scope, and it's disintegrated. We'll see.
