To Camp or Not To Camp

Just returned from a camping weekend. The site we were given was next to the highway and quite ugly. We were supposed to meet Wonono’s daughter and boyfriend there. After sitting on our little camp chairs in the gravel, and laughing our asses off, we called them, suggesting we drive the rest of the way into Seattle instead of them coming to us in the Dosewallips.  So that’s what we did.  Of course all the stuff we packed his truck with to camp was unnecessary, and we had to unpack it all when we got home after three days in Seattle, but we had a great time there, so…oh well.  The perks of change?  Took a long walk in Alki, a beach-y part of Seattle that no one else had seen.  It was surprisingly hot, but we stopped for drinks and ice cream, and then walked back to the car.  They are headed back to California in a few weeks after a year in Seattle so he could study at Udub, so the point for us was to spend time with them. Still, it would have been lovely to sleep in a tent outside.  I suppose we could always set ours up in our backyard!  Seeing our kids is always wonderful, and sad, because it’s too short.  Sometimes I wish we could all live in our own little compound, but then I remind myself that togetherness is sometimes too much.  Better enjoying the time spent with, and our lovely solitude here on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula.  Life is good.
